What to expect during your Dry Eye Evaluation:

Please do not instill any topical eye drops prior to your examination for this may affect the accuracy of testing results.

2.  Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to complete our Dry Eye Questionnaire, or bring in a prefilled one that you downloaded and completed from our site.

3.  Please bring any topical artificial tears or medications, list of systemic medications, contact lenses, and solutions you have been using to your appointment.

4.  After careful review of your medical and ocular history and the following tests will be completed:

  A. TearLab testing which evaluates tear “saltiness”.
  B. Tear Surface Stain Assessment: staining with two different dyes (lissamine green and fluorescein) to “paint” the damaged and dry tissues of the ocular surface
  C. Sjo testing when indicated: Sjö is a laboratory test which combines traditional markers with three novel, proprietary biomarkers, allowing earlier detection Sjogren’s Syndrome. Sjogrens Syndrome is a disorder of your immune system identified by its two most common symptoms — dry eyes and a dry mouth.
  D. Schirmer’s testing to assess aqueous volume (if deemed necessary).
  E.

Careful assessment of the lids and eyelashes and meibography to determine if meibomian gland disease is present.

Once all testing is complete, a diagnosis and classification of severity of disease can be made and a tailored treatment program established.
